Invest Fair 2010

Invest Fair 2010Latest News Update About Invest Fair 2010: Institutional and private investors will be able to interact with chief executive officers of some of the best performing public listed companies in Singapore and South-east Asia this month when The Business Times and ShareInvestor co-host a conference on investing in Asia.

The conference, being organised for the first time, is in conjunction with the popular annual INVEST Fair pioneered by the financial portal ShareInvestor.

This year, the fair, which attracts some 30,000 over a weekend, comes with a difference.

First, it will be held at the swanky Marina Bay Sands conference centre over the Aug 21-22 weekend. Second, it will be preceded by the inaugural INVEST Fair Conference with a top quality line-up of speakers on Friday, Aug 20, also at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre.

The conference will feature the experience and insights of key industry players including a panel discussion with top corporate leaders such as Piyush Gupta of DBS Bank, Alan Chan of Singapore Press Holdings, Sunny Varghese of Olam International and Tan Tong Hai of StarHub.

Joining BT and ShareInvestor in co-presenting the conference is the newly-created Singapore Mercantile Exchange(SMX).

SMX vice-chairman Jignesh Shah, who is also chairman of the FT Group, will give a keynote address on the financial markets.

Some 500 analysts, researchers, fund managers and high-end private investors from here and various parts of Asia are expected to attend.

Former Singapore Exchange head Hsieh Fu Hua is another heavyweight participant in the conference who will come back to very familiar territory as the moderator of a high-powered panel discussing the prospects for the equities and commodities markets in Asia. Mr Hsieh, who this week takes on a new role as executive director and president of Temasek Holdings, will have four heads of exchanges in the region on his panel sharing the stage for the first time. They are Singapore Exchange president Gan Seow Ann, Bursa Malaysia chief executive officer Yusli Mohamed Yusoff, Stock Exchange of Thailand president Charamporn Jotikasthira, and chief executive officer of the Singapore Mercantile Exchange Thomas MacMahon.

Economists giving their take on the state of the global economy and prospects for investment in Asia include Andrew Cates, executive director and senior international economist at UBS Investment Bank, and Arjuna Mahendran, managing director and head of investment strategy for Asia at HSBC Private Bank.

Other highlights include a seminar on women and investing, and an investment workshop conducted in Mandarin.

INVEST Fair 2010 will showcase public listed companies and traders of various other asset classes from across the region. Industry personalities such as Gabriel Yap of GCP Global, Andrew Robinson of Saxo Capital Markets and Kevin Scully of NRA Capital will conduct seminars on topics as diverse as investing in today's capital markets and stockpicking themes for 2010. Financial trainer Adam Khoo is slated to speak on strategies to make consistent profits in the stock market while Alvin Lim of the Australian Wine Index will be speaking on investing in New World wines.

Among the exhibitors are companies such as American International Assurance, Edgeworth Properties, Phillip Capital, Premium Liquid Assets and Walton International Group, with Singapore-listed Osim International and Grand Hyatt Singapore sponsoring prizes for visitors to the fair.
